The risk
A hijack starts as silence. A vessel stops reporting, and within the hour you're fielding questions from crew families, charterers and journalists, with no answers. The ship is rarely the hard part; the crew, the negotiation, the port charges and the lost hire are. Cover for owners, managers, charterers, and superyacht and fishing fleet operators.
What the policy does
The policy reimburses the ransom, including a ransom that is destroyed or lost in delivery, and covers the costs a hijack creates around it: loss of hire, port authority charges for up to 21 days, fuel and oil, repatriation of the crew, and legal and medical fees. Responder fees and expenses are unlimited.
Dedicated limits to protect you
Dedicated and unambiguous limits that sit apart from general hull and machinery or P&I cover that maritime operators have, protecting against a catastrophic peril that can fall between other policies, when it matters most. It's a safeguard built specifically for this exposure.
Duty of care
Extends your Duty of Care obligations to crew and other people present on vessels, covering the exposure that arises when a crisis affects the people you're responsible for, wherever they happen to be at sea, in port, or onshore at your offices.
Marine Safeguard
Marine safeguard provides protection for ransom reimbursement and crisis response in situations of piracy, hijack, and crew kidnap.
It includes dedicated limits separate from your hull and machinery and P&I cover.
