Assault and Battery

An extension to Protect Safeguard Plus for violence that involves no weapon, wherever your staff and the public meet face to face.

The risk

Acts and threats of violence often involve no weapon, yet assault and battery remain among the most common and under-insured workplace exposures. Anywhere staff and the public meet is exposed: shops, hotels, hospitals and care homes, schools, transport hubs, leisure venues, places of worship and public-facing offices.

What the policy does

The extension broadens Protect Safeguard Plus to cover claims arising from assault or battery. It pays the damages you are legally liable for, with defence costs, and investigates, negotiates and settles third-party claims on your behalf. It also covers physical loss of, or damage to, your property and contents arising directly from an incident.

Your active assailant cover, preserved

Many incidents fall outside the weapon-based Active Assailant definition. This extension closes that gap without changing what you already have: it is issued on a primary basis for certainty of response, and your Active Assailant cover stays fully intact.

Helps meet lender and landlord requirements

Lenders, landlords and investors increasingly require assault and battery cover as a condition of financing or a lease, as evidence of proper duty-of-care management. This extension helps you meet that obligation, with dedicated limits that sit outside your general property and liability programmes.

Assault & Battery Extension

For the incidents a weapon-based definition miss, such as assaults where no weapon is used.

Our Assault & Battery extension broadens your Protect Safeguard Plus policy to cover claims arising from assault or battery, closing a common gap in workplace violence cover while keeping your Active Assailant protection fully intact.
